The Sensory Gallery offers a selection of top quality weighted products that are sure to soothe. Our weighted blankets, weighted shoulder wraps, and weighted lap pads provide proprioceptive input in the form of deep pressure which has a calming effect on the nervous system. The deep pressure received from our weighted products is similar to a comforting hug or the calming effect of swaddling an infant. This can greatly benefit individuals with sensory processing disorder, autism, ADHD, and other learning and/or sleeping difficulties.
Each weighted blanket, wrap or pad is created with your choice of a solid color organic cotton fabric or customize your item with a fun print to match your child's unique style. We use the highest quality poly-pellet filling to weight our products.
Our weighted blankets are typically made to order after receiving your selected specifications of fabric color and weight. Why use weighted products? Weighted blankets are very effective in helping children and adults focus, calm, relax, and sleep. The deep pressure supplied by the weight in our blankets, shoulder wraps, and lap pads causes serotonin to be released in the brain. Serotonin helps to regulate brain chemistry and keep the body in a relaxed state.
Who can benefit from the use of weighted products? Weighted products are used with children and adults with a range of diagnoses including but not limited to autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing disorder, ADHD, ADD, bi-polar disorder, and anyone who struggles with anxiety and depression. Weighted blankets are a natural way to aid people with sleeping difficulties.
What is sensory processing disorder? Sensory processing disorder refers to the inability of the brain to fully utilize the information it gathers through all our senses in an organized and effective way. It is believed that 1 in 20 children in the US have sensory processing disoder. As more research is done and awareness increases it may be that the numbers are much higher. Sensory processing disorder is commonly associated with learning disabilities, autism spectrum, attention deficit, language disorders, anxiety disorder, depression, post- traumatic stress disorder, and some behavioral disorders. Sensory processing disorder can effect an individuals life in many functional ways including behavioral skills, organizational skills, motor skills, attention skills, impaired sleeping skills, and self esteem.
What is proprioception? Proprioception can also be referred to as our position sense. It tells us the position, location, orientation, and movement of our body and it's parts.
How are your products weighted? We use top quality poly-pellets in our weighted products which are hypoallergenic and non toxic. The poly-pellets are quilted into the weighted blankets, shoulder wraps, and lap pads to make for even distribution of weight.
How long does it take to receive my blanket? Each blanket is made to order according to your specifications. Our current time frame is 2 to 3 weeks for your order to be shipped. In the unlikely event, your blanket gets delayed for any reason, we will be sure to contact you. Ready to ship items are mailed within 2 business days.
What kind of fabric do you use for the inner layers? We use 100 percent cotton for the inner layers of our weighted products for maximum breathability.
Can your products be washed? Yes, they can be machine washed on cold and tumble dried on low heat.
How are your products shipped? They are sent via priority mail through the USPS for orders sent within the continental U.S. International orders are welcome however an additional shipping fee is required. Costs for any returns are the responsibilty of the consumer.
